Android Application Selection
Here is my updated little list of Android applications that I use regularly...
Utilities
Hacker's Keyboard - alternative keyboard for your device. If you need to enter TAB, or ESC, or CTRL you'll find them here. If you need multiple international keyboards, they are available as well.
Note Everything - A simple notepad/todo application with a nice UI that you'll use to take a simple note or make a quick shopping list. Pro version gives even more useful features!
RealCalc Scientific Calculator Plus - simple scientific calculator with nice UI provides a nice improvement over built in calculator in your device.
WolframAlpha - If you're fond of Mathematics, you probably know of Wolfram products... Here is simple client for Wolfram Alpha. Mostly it provides extended math keyboard, since it requires Internet access for results.
Droid48 - Emulator of famous HP 48 calculator. Ironically it runs faster than original on many Android devices.
Unit Converter - elegant unit converter of any unit available: length, weight or even currency!
ES File Explorer - File System Explorer for your device. It even has network features so you can browse your Samba shares or FTP sites.
App 2 SD - Nice application which allows you to see and move applications to external storage, thus allowing you to install more applications on your device.
Spare Parts Plus - Advanced system utility where you can easily see battery charge and many other system settings.
Barcode Scanner - This utility allows you to scan bar or QR codes. This allows you to easily get textual information, visit a web page, or install an application.
Norton Snap QR Code Reader - Perhaps a nicer QR code scanner from Norton company.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary - Well, an offline dictionary. Beats flipping through paper version while in bed...
SoundHound - Music recognizer. If you have old music compilations without names of songs this is a fast way to find them.
Sundroid Pro - Nice astronomy/photography utility app which allows you to see when Sun, Moon or planets rise and set. You can also plan photography projects, since you can see when the Sun or Moon will be at the desired location.
Sky Map - Google Sky Map. Find planets or Messier objects. Not many features to satisfy advanced amateur astronomer though.
Dropbox - Cloud storage
Box - Another Cloud storage
Skype - Skype client for Android
Adobe Reader - PDF document reader from Adobe.
TV Raspored - My application for Croatian televisions. It includes TV day which lasts beyond midnight, automatic alarms on all episodes of favorite series, and it suggests films/series based on favorite actors.
Tablet Utilities
These work quite nicely on larger screens, but I wouldn't recommend them on phone sized Android devices
Komik Reader - If you have digital comics in CDZ or CBR format, this is a nice viewer for them.
SketchBook Pro - Use your tablet for drawing. There are plenty of drawing tools in this nice Autodesk application.
ConnectBot - Nice SSH client. Use Hacker's keyboard mentioned above to get ESC, CTRL and other terminal keys.
Eye-Fi - If you have Eye-Fi SD card in your DSLR, this is a nice way to wirelessly transfer images or to view them on large screen while the camera is across the room and you use remote.
Games
Labyrinth Lite - Force a ball into a hole using accelerometer.
Sudoku - It really doesn't have smartest algorithm, but it has a nice user interface.
Alchemy Classic - Classic game of generating new elements by combining existing ones.
Math Workout Pro - If you like math, this is a nice generator of simple exercises.
CopyCat Free - Simon Says clone
Gem Miner: Dig Deeper - Possibly addictive game of collecting gems in a huge mine.
Radiant HD - Really nice recreation of a classic arcade game.
Chess Genius - Nice chess game with good engine and clear user interface.
Shredder Chess - Another chess with friendly detection of your chess strenght.
Tablet Games
As above, but I'd really recommend using large screen devices
Osmos HD - Addictive, beautiful physics game
The Sims™ FreePlay - Free Sims game for Android. Tasks are in real time, so don't let it become ugly time sink.
Monopoly - Really nice Monopoly, with a polished user interface.
UNO - Famous card game. It could use some user design, but playable nevertheless...
